PART E - THE FACTS

The revision of Part E of the Buildings Regulations, designed to address the noise level suffered by occupants of multi-storey dwellings, had a significant effect on the use of acoustic flooring. Separating floors now have to be constructed in such a sway as to achieve the sound insulation values shown in the table below.

There are two ways to ensure you comply with the Regulations:

1) Robust Details – This method eliminates the need to continual testing. Contractors can simply use a product that has been rigorously tested, approved and registered with Robust Details Limited.

2) Pre-Completion Testing – The contractor must test one in ten units that are not built to a Robust Details. Tests must be carried out by an accredited Acoustic Engineer. The structure must achieve the minimum standards as shown in the tables.
